About Us

After 25 years as a devout student and teacher of Iyengar Yoga, Hart Lazer broadened his practice to include Ashtanga Yoga. While practicing his Ashtanga workshops, he was surprised to meet many Ashtanga teachers who were struggling to cope with injuries. He soon found himself using his deep knowledge of Iyengar techniques to help yoga teachers from other traditions heal old injuries and prevent new ones. As word of Hart's effectiveness spread, he became increasingly in demand as a workshop leader and trainer of yoga teachers.

Shortly after beginning her first workshop with Hart, Donna Read (co-owner of Le Centre de Yoga de Granby) felt a deep certainty that he was the teacher she had been searching for. A year later, in 2005, while studying in Hart's Advanced Teacher Training Program, Donna found herself with a unique opportunity to build a new yoga studio in downtown Montreal. Thinking it over, she realized that what she truly wanted was to build a studio that could serve as a center for Hart's teaching in part of this world. Sucking up her courage, she asked him if he would consider becoming her partner in the project.

Open to the idea, Hart felt they should invite three members of the Advanced Teacher Training Program to join them. Together, they chose Claudia Saleh, Cynthia Po, and Len Blum. All three had completed extensive training as Ashtanga teachers before beginning their studies with Hart.

The teachers at United Yoga Montreal are dedicated to uniting the most beneficial element of Ashtanga Yoga with the brilliant constructions, strategies, and healing techniques of Iyengar Yoga. It is our privilege to have the chance to share, with other students and teachers, the benefits of these two great branches in the tree of Yoga.
