200-Hour Professional Certification Program
10 weekend Intensives: May 2010 – July 2011


A unique opportunity to study and practice intensely with experienced and knowledgeable yoga teachers.

This training is designed for students and teachers of all traditions who teach or who are interested in teaching groups of all levels. It is also for students and teachers who wish to take their own practice to a new level to deepen their understanding of Yoga.

During this training you will receive a basic, beginner teacher training with the following components:

  • Detailed examination and analysis of 40 yoga postures.
  • Learn how to accurately practice and teach asana by breaking down the poses into component parts along with proper usage of props.
  • Develop and maintain a self-nourishing personal practice.
  • Explore how to wisely, safely adapt poses for different body types and different levels of flexibility, strength, injury, age and understanding.

  • Study skills that create good foundation for an effective teacher:
  • basic teaching skills
  • effective verbal communication
  • proper demonstration skills
  • observing, correcting, adjusting
  • classroom management
  • Basic art of sequencing and hands on adjusting


  • The above will be taught through various methods including:
  • Small group work and peer teaching
  • Regular homework assignments
  • Test both theory and practical
  • Developing a meditation practice
  • In depth self exploration

  • We will, as a group, design practices for all major categories of poses each month. Participants will practice a set sequence of poses each month to enhance their familiarity with both the basics of the poses from a teaching point of view as well as refinements meant for their own development.

    Basic anatomy regarding postures will be included.

    Syllabus of Postures: those from the Ashtanga primary series excluding marichyasana B and D, Supta Kurmasana, Bhujapidasana and Setubhandasana.

    It will also include Restorative postures and the Big Six.

  • This training is for anyone who desires to study and learn not only asana but also the yogic philosophy to then better serve your students and also develop a better understanding of your own personal practice.
  • A regular yoga practice of at least 12 months (2-3 times a week) is recommended.

    250-hour professional certification program
    12 Weekends: February 2010 – March 2011


    This 250-hour professional certification program is a great launching pad to begin teaching yoga, and a fantastic way to deepen your personal practice. You will gain the confidence and technical skills you need to create inspiring, joyful and safe classes, that will truly touch the hearts and lives of others.

    The program draws its inspiration from the Kripalu Yoga tradition and interweaves the rich teachings of Buddhist meditation. It is designed in 12 weekend intensives, with a small class size. This format will give you time to integrate the material and gain a supportive Sangha (community) with your peers and teachers.

    During this training you will

  • Gain a deep knowledge of alignment principles in asanas
  • Learn to see and understand body structure and movement
  • Learn Injury Prevention
  • Gain precise language to compassionately communicate with your students
  • Work with approaches to assisting students in asana, including hands-on techniques and demonstrations
  • Learn introductory anatomy for yoga
  • Have opportunities to practice teaching in a supervised environment
  • Learn the Kripalu methodology for designing well-rounded classes, including centering, pranayama, warm-ups, asana, relaxation, loving-kindness meditation and chanting
  • Experience the art of sequencing safe and inspiring classes
  • Learn how to create themes for your classes
  • Be introduced to yogic history and the teachings of Swami Kripalu
  • Learn how to teach beginner, gentle and mixed level classes
  • Discover how the rich philosophy of yoga relates to our daily lives
  • Learn how to teach students to develop mindfulness, loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity

    Kelly McGrath, co-owner of United Yoga Montreal, is a certified and experienced Kripalu Yoga Instructor. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Kelly has been practicing yoga consistently for more than 20 years, and teaching full time for more than 10 years. Kelly is a compassionate and knowledgeable teacher, whose classes are challenging, safe and infused with spirit to uplift the heart. She is known for her understanding of anatomical detail, creative asana sequencing, yoga for a healthy menstrual cycle, restorative yoga, and inspiring thematic talks on yoga and meditation.

    Kelly is also dedicated to maintaining a regular Buddhist meditation practice. Over the years, Kelly has discovered that integrating Yoga and Buddhist meditation has provided a beautiful opportunity to experience steady presence, openness, health, joy and insight.′

  • At least two years of consistent yoga practice with an experienced yoga teacher.
  • A letter of recommendation from your teacher.
  • Completed application form.
  • Attend 4 classes with Kelly McGrath by January 15th, 2010. These classes provide you and Kelly with an opportunity to determine whether this course is right for you. Applicants living outside the greater Montreal will be given special consideration.

    United Yoga Montreal brings you a full 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (Yoga Alliance registered) taught by Hart Lazer, Donna Read, Po, and Len Blum at United Yoga Montreal

    A unique opportunity to study and practice intensely with experienced and knowledgeable yoga teachers.

    This training is designed for students and teachers of all traditions who teach or who are interested in teaching groups of all levels. It is also for students and teachers who wish to take their own practice to a new level to deepen their understanding of Yoga. In this training, learn and gain greater knowledge in physiology, anatomy and biomechanics of the postures with emphasis on alignment, imbalances in the body, learning to give safe adjustments and much, much more.

  • Yoga as a tool for self-transformation
  • Organizing, establishing and sequencing yoga postures for home practice.
  • Teaching skills: (Surya Namaskar and Standing poses).
  • Grounding the femurs
  • Forward bends

  • Twists
  • Inversions and Restoratives.
  • Teaching skills and adjustments.
  • How to use props properly.
  • Working with the 5 levels of practice.
  • Beginner pranayama and meditation work.
